Window tint darkness is measured in VLT, or visible light transmission. This number tells you how much light passes through the glass and film combined.
A lower number means a darker tint. A higher number means a lighter, more see-through tint. So 5% is extremely dark, close to limo tint. 70% is barely noticeable, letting most light through.
This trips a lot of people up at first, since it feels backwards. Just remember, lower percentage means darker glass. For Chandler drivers dealing with intense year-round sun, understanding this scale makes choosing the right shade a lot easier.

Very dark. Offers strong privacy and maximum heat rejection. Common on rear windows, less common on fronts due to legal limits.
Dark, but you can still see silhouettes and movement inside the vehicle. A popular choice for drivers who want a noticeably darker look.

A moderate shade. Visibly tinted, but still allows a clear view in and out. One of the most popular ranges for daily drivers.
A lighter tint. Subtle darkening with strong UV and heat protection, without a heavily tinted appearance.
Very light. Barely noticeable from outside the vehicle, while still offering real UV protection and some heat rejection.
Arizona law sets specific limits on how dark your tint can be, depending on which window you’re tinting. These limits apply the same way whether you’re in Chandler, Mesa, or anywhere else in the state.
Must allow at least 33% VLT. This means your front driver and passenger windows can’t go darker than 33%.
No VLT restriction. These windows can be tinted to any darkness, including 5%.
Only a non-reflective strip above the manufacturer’s AS-1 line is allowed to be tinted. The rest of the windshield must remain clear, though a clear, non-reflective ceramic film is legal across the full windshield since it doesn’t reduce visible light.
Every film offers a range from very dark to very light, so your shade choice isn’t limited by which film you pick. All four films also come with a lifetime warranty and block up to 99% of UV rays, regardless of shade.
Our most popular shade among Chandler drivers, largely due to Arizona's glaring sun and the privacy it offers. With sun this intense for much of the year, many drivers want the strongest heat and glare relief available, along with the added privacy that comes with a very dark tint. Since Arizona law doesn't restrict darkness on back windows and rear glass, most drivers go as dark as possible in these areas, then choose a lighter, legal shade up front.
Offers a noticeably darker, more private look up front. Popular with drivers who want stronger privacy and heat rejection within the legal front window limit.
35%
A common daily driver choice for front windows. It gives a visibly tinted look without feeling closed in, and it's a shade most people find strikes a good balance between style and visibility.

Not necessarily. Heat rejection depends on the film’s technology, not just how dark it looks. A lighter shade in a higher performing film, like Rival IR, can reject more heat than a darker shade in a lower tier film like Carbon.
We will guide you and inform you on Arizona law. Ultimately, the decision is yours.
Let us know as early as possible if you’d like to adjust your shade choice. Since film is ordered based on your selection, changes are easiest before installation begins.
No. Each film has its own available shade range, though all four span from very dark to very light. Check the shade availability section above to compare.
Slightly. Different films can have subtle differences in tone and finish even at the same VLT percentage. We recommend viewing physical samples in person before deciding, especially for shades close to your final decision.
